Started Working as an Art Director at Ogilvy Cape Town in early 2007 where he stayed for the next 4 and a half years. He is now freelancing as an art director/designer and open for work.

Spanish furniture and product design graduate Ornella Stocco has created a modular furniture system with joints made of porcelain. Called Underconstruction, the system includes three different joints that can be used to build and reconfigure tables, coat pegs and storage rails from wooden poles.

Stocco made the pieces from extruded porcelain, joining the tubes by hand before firing them at high temperatures in an effort to make the fragile material as durable as possible. Transfers highlight the unusual material choice by referencing traditional Delft pottery. Stocco designed the system, called Underconstruction, while studying furniture and product design at London Metropolitan University.

Just like plumbing fittings, Underconstruction consists of porcelain elbows that connect wood sticks in order to assemble furniture. Designer wanted to push forward the boundaries of porcelain’s common values by playing with its symbol of fragility and delicacy, and give a new use to it. On one hand, the porcelain elbows function as hardware fittings giving freedom to the user to customize his/her own piece of furniture. On the other, they create a familiar and warm domestic construction.

Along the design studies, Stocco have been mostly interested in the experimentation with materials and how these can be distanced from their common assumptions and be placed in new contexts. At that moment, materials will transmit a complete different approach where the boundaries of how they should/could be used disappear. Underconstruction is one manifestation of this experimentation where the goal was to combine wood and porcelain within a functional structure by looking for the most suitable form and state of porcelain in order to make it utile. For that reason, the elbows have been high fired and therefore vitrified so they reach their most resistant strength level. The blue willows transfers immediately explain the material it’s made of.

The Constantin Lamps Collection was created by Brooklyn-based artisan and manufacturer Andrea Claire Studio. Indistrial designer Konstantin Grcic presents these tables painted to look like Formula 1 cars at Gallerie Kreo in Paris. Called Champions, the aluminum trestle tables are lacquered with graphics inspired by sports equipment.

The graphics applied on the tables are fictional. They have no meaning other than creating an illusion which outgrows the objective reality of the product. The inspiration is obviously taken from sports (racing cars, bikes, skis etc.) which is a world in which the presumption of speed, performance, strength is heavily pushed. The project is not just about surface decoration. “I am interested in the psychology of graphics in relation to products and more specifically, how the semantics of certain colors, words, symbols can change the perception of an object,” says the designer.
The graphics are spray-painted by a laquerer whose extraordinary skill and craftsmanship became a crucial factor in the process of realizing the project.

The CHAMPIONS collection consists of 4 large tables (APACHE, BANZAI, JETDOG, PODIFY) and 4 small tables (MONROE, NADA, JAXONE, 465). Each table is produced as an edition of six.

Industrial designer Konstantin Grcic, whose company KGID (Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design) resides in Munich, is not only one of the most influential German designers today but also a humble man and thereby pretty much the complete opposite of your average narcissistic designer/artist. After an apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker, he studied at the Royal College of Art in London as an assistant to Jasper Morrison. Since setting up his own design practice Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design in Munich in 1991 he has developed furniture, products and lighting for some of Europe’s leading design companies such as Authentics, Cappellini Driade, Flos, iittala, SCP and Wireworks.

Karim Rashid has created a concept of a modern chair with interesting shape and design of each owner to be spoiled.

The High Roller is a sun lounger made of laminated veneer in a natural finish, available with green or pink interior accents.  Designed by Karim Rashid for Punk Alive the High Roller is a curvaceous chaise that would look great as an accent piece in anybody’s living room.
